THE CONCEPT IN DETAIL

  • Equipping vulnerable road users in Maryland with cameras

    • We encourage the use of looping cameras such as go-pro, Fly6, and 12 (as well as less expensive options)

  • We will pursue grant funding for lower-income riders, to upload transgressions and share them with law enforcement and bicycle attorneys.

  • We will write Op-Ed's, letters to editors, upload videos and links to www.upride.cc to share widely.

  • We will report widely the outcomes of traffic justice on social media and email lists.

  • We will campaign for Vulnerable Road Users and help the driving public know the penalties and how to avoid hurting cyclists.

  • We will stand out in public to let those driving We Saw You - Please see us.

The intent is to create a cultural shift, in addition to using the law, that removes the sense of anonymity that so many might hide behind in behaving badly and shirking their responsibility as careful drivers.

Outputs: (Intermediate steps towards the goal)

  • Increased public awareness of road violence being captured and shared

  • Increase in Citations, Visits  and Tickets by law enforcement

  • Increased involvement of law enforcement, officials, and organizations that support safer roads

  • Increased number of articles, TV and online media coverage of the issue, efforts and outcomes.

  • Increased number of Social media posts that results in yet more publicity to help begin the cultural shift.

  • Both positive and negative reactions in published formal and social media. The more publicity  the better in making the cultural shift start to tip.

Outcomes: (Desired Changes we want to see)

  • Safer more respectful behavior towards others on our roads

  • Better awareness and understanding of the rules of the road in relation to motorized vehicles and other vulnerable road users such as those on bikes, with secondary benefits for pedestrians, runners, skateboarders, the disabled and those on motorcycles.

  • Fewer crashes

  • Fewer injuries

  • Fewer (we hope zero) hit and runs - with more hit-and-runners captured and prosecuted severely.

  • Criminal behavior is captured and effectively dealt with

  • Preventative impact knowing actions are being recorded

  • Increase in all road users feeling safer

  • Many more people and bicycles on the road
